I used my router to do the
1/16" depression on the front of the fuselage. Here you can see a
curve template, made from the plans drawing that was used to make F-22, and,
a motorcycle strap held on with weights as the back edge of the router
"guide." This worked pretty well, not quite as nice as around the
landing brake on the bottom of the fuselage, but, I still think it turned
out nicer than sanding it. |

Here's a shot of the canard
cutout. Not real hard, but, critical to get straight and square.
I sanded and filed this straight and square after rough cutting to size. |

My foam cutouts are probably a
little different than the plans, I've canted them forward to allow the fuel
sight gauges, purchased from Vance Atkinson, to be more easily viewed from
the front seats. Once I got to this step, I sanded a little more foam,
on the outside, from around them. This should help the glass lay into
this depression without too much trouble. |

I also made these wood pieces
to help with this step. Covered with clear tape, cut just to size,
with a small piece of wood on top to keep the weight from rolling off.
These will be applied after the glass is laid on to keep it in the
depression and ensure a nice flat surface. |
