Step 6 INSTALLING THE OUTSIDE SEAT BELT
ATTACHMENTS & EXTERNAL STEP
Once again, I made small parts
by first creating a CAD drawing of what was needed. In this case, the
drawing was of the side of the angle brackets. The CAD drawing gave
the correct location for the holes, the bevels and the radiused edges.
The drawings were then printed, cut to size (the outside lines of the
drawing are very fine and easy to follow) then affixed to the aluminum with
spray adhesive. I then finished cutting and sanding the brackets to
size, drilling the appropriate size holes where needed, and radiusing edges
with the paper drawing stuck on the piece.
Here's the finished angle
brackets, after removing the paper and cleaning them, setting on the plywood
inserts. I did the inserts in a similar way, cutting away the excess
material with my band saw and fence.
One plywood insert installed in
the fuselage with the 7 plies of BID laid up over it. I won't
permanently install the angle brackets until later steps in the fuselage
construction to avoid damaging them in any way.
Here's a view of the outside of
the fuselage with the seat belt attachment bolts installed in their
counter-bored holes.
I did install the angle
brackets once to be sure everything fit correctly. This ensured I had
the counterbores drilled to the correct depth and all the holes lined up
properly.
